COCONUT – A delicious gift of nature for health and beauty!

Coconut is a quintessential part of life on or near any beautiful island that you may have visited. It is a complete food in itself and a powerhouse of nutrition. A mature fruit from the Cocos Nucifera palm, it is a rich source of vital vitamins, minerals, fats, and bioactive compounds. For an average sized individual, a medium sized Coconut with nearly 400 g meat and 100 ml of water can help suffice the whole day and provide all the required nutrients to nurture the system.

While nearly every part of the tree is efficiently utilised by humans, few of us actually know about the nutrients and health benefits that this wonderful super food is loaded with.

Coconut Oil is delicious and one stop for all your health vowes

As listed in the infographic below, extra virgin coconut oil is packed with medium chain fatty acids that do not get stored as body fat but get burnt, enhancing metabolism and providing much needed energy boost to the body.

One of the key saturated fatty acids in coconut is Lauric Acid that adds to the good HDL cholesterol level in blood. Lauric acid further decomposes in body to result in mono-laurin, which is anti-viral and anti-fungal in nature and hence enhancing our immunity.

On top of it, the phenolics content in the oil provide one with the essential antioxidants. Coconut oil is suitable to be cooked at high heat as it does not further convert into harmful fatty acids.

However the oil if refined or chemically treated looses these benefits and be as harmful as any other treated oil.

All parts of Coconut tree are consumed for food & living!

Following infographic from Mercola highlights interesting uses of all parts of Cocos Nucifera Palm tree.

Even though coconut oil/milk contains good saturated fatty acids, it is yet recommended to be consumed in moderation for its high fat content.
