Cucumber Basil Sorbet – A Healthy Recipe to detoxify and to please your taste buds!

Medhya is here with a new recipe treat to stay in shape and to rejuvenate. This time it is a delicious cucumber and basil sorbet. It can be a perfect healthy dessert for your family gathering. This recipe by Chef Priya is a sugar free dessert with a little spice in its flavour. You may skip adding the green chilli if you don’t want to make it spicy. Chilly Cucumber Basil Sorbet is a frozen creamy treat. It is Vegan and Gluten-Free! So here we go and as always, we start with the health benefits of ingredients.

Cucumber to stay hydrated, to nourish, and for a healthy tummy!

Making it with cucumbers because cucumbers are a great source of vital Vitamins, phosphorus and magnesium and potassium. They are rich in two of the most basic elements needed for healthy digestion: water and fibre.

Benefits of eating cucumber are various. To list a few:
·        Helps in keeping the body well-hydrated
·        Fights heat, both inside and out

·        Nourishes you with vitamins

The next key ingredient in our recipe is Basil. Basil is a rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, and Iron. It has a zero percentage of Carbohydrates and is a purely nourishing ingredient that is loaded with micronutrients. Basil extracts reduce inflammation by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide. Basil is a promising source of antioxidants and the evidence for its anti-cancer activity is optimistic thus far.

Mint is a great appetizer or palate cleanser, and it promotes digestion. It also soothes the stomach in case of indigestion or inflammation. Honey is antibacterial and anti-fungal. It increases athletic performance and reduces cough and throat irritation. Honey also helps in regulating blood sugar.

Chilli Cucumber Basil Sorbet Recipe – Ingredients

Serves: 2-3 people

  • 2 cups of grated cucumber
  • ¾ cup chopped basil
  • 1/3 cup mint leaves
  • 1-2 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 green chilly
  • 1 lime
  • Fresh mint sprigs to garnish

Chilli Cucumber Basil Sorbet Recipe – Method of Preparation

Time of preparation: Varies

  • Chop the cucumber with its skin.
  • Roughly chop basil leaves and mint leaves.
  • Take your blender. Put all the ingredients along with honey, green chilli and lime juice.
  • Process it until the mixture becomes smooth. Don’t strain it.
  • Transfer it to an ice-cream maker and churn it as per the instructions of the device.
  • ENJOY!

(Make it in a Granita if you don’t have an ice cream maker. Texture will differ)

  • Transfer it to an airtight container and freeze for 5-6 hours.
  • Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and serve it chilled.
