Toxins Vs Weight Losshow-toxins-make-u-fat

Toxins enter our body through various internal and external sources. Most chronic obesity and overweight problems are related directly or indirectly to toxin build up in the body. These toxins disrupt the biochemical mechanisms involved in weight control. This explains the struggle which people face to reduce weight, no matter how much they change their lifestyle.

Our lifestyles are plagued by poor quality of food choices, high stress, and low physical activity that further build up toxins in body. Highly processed foods lack fibre, antioxidants, and phytonutrients and are in fact high in glycemic index (GI) and harmful fats.

However, studies prove that a large chunk of the problem is constituted by environmental toxins. These include pesticides, heavy metals, phthalates, plastics, and petrochemicals.

How toxins can make weight loss nearly impossible?
Toxins work on multiple aspects:

Toxin Build Up and Weight Loss

So specifically this is what toxins do:
  1. Make liver excrete active hormones which slows down and damages the thyroid receptors.
  2. Interfere with appetite control mechanisms in the brain.
  3. Increase insulin and leptin resistance. This prevents brain from acting on high fat content in body, hence inducing inflammation.
  4. Damage mitochondria, the storehouse of energy hence slowing down metabolism.
  5. Create oxidative stress and free radicals which further slows down metabolism.
What is it with toxins that shuts the weight loss mechanism down?
Toxins vs Weight Loss

Toxins lead to Obesity

Toxins lower the metabolic rate.

As one person starts reducing weight, the toxins get stored in the fat tissues loading the liver. Sudden activation of body’s inactive hormones causes the metabolism to crash and hence weight gain. This also results in issues such as fat liver.

Chemicals in our body systems

Evidence suggests that an average newborn has 287 chemicals in the umbilical cord blood, of which 217 are considered neurotoxic. These include, bisphenol A, flame retardants, and heavy metals.

Detoxification of the body to loose weight
detox

Detoxification is an energy consuming process that puts a metabolic burden on the body. Therefore the focus should be on increasing nutritional support through diet. A meal plan that would include nutrients dense and fibre rich combinations of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Detoxification can be led with healthy lifestyle choices, physical activity, stress management, and Ayurveda. Weight loss is directly proportional to the reduced effects of toxin build up.

In our earlier article on this series, learn more about how toxins get built up in the body. The future articles in this series would deal with body’s natural detoxification systems and how to detox naturally.
